Opinion | Tom Tiffany: Schools need to do better for our kids

As a father of three daughters, I know you want your children to receive an education that sets them up for success. Every parent hopes the classroom their child walks into feels safe and is dedicated to bringing out each child’s potential.

But the truth is, the status quo in Wisconsin is failing at both.

A mere 31% of Wisconsin’s fourth‑graders read at grade level, and our state has the largest racial gap in reading and math scores in the country. Instead of solving these failures, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) lowered standards to hide how serious the problem has become.
