Rep. Tiffany asks for more transparency on plans for refugee resettlement

Congressman Tom Tiffany of Minocqua sent a letter to the director of Wisconsin’s refugee program drawing attention to reported plans to resettle Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in the Wausau-area.

Tiffany is calling for transparency and opportunities for public input. The current plan is to bring in 140 refugees between now and January 20th to Marathon County.

Tiffany criticized the plan writing “Little if any effort appears to have been made to reach out directly to the public, or to analyze the potential strains it may place on local schools, public health infrastructure, housing availability, or social service. This disturbing pattern of behavior appears designed to deliberately keep the residents most likely to be harmed out of the loop and in the dark. It also runs counter to the intent of federal laws that require coordination on these matters.”
